Education Tax Rebate (ETR)
The ATA and the Education Tax Rebate (ETR)

The Federal Government has amended its criteria for the allowable deductions under the ETR in order to specifically exclude tutoring. In November of last year the ATA made direct representations to the government in regards to gaining a $700 taxation exemption for families who use ATA accredited tutors. It is the ATA position that the exclusion of tutoring from the ETR affects financially disadvantaged families most. Indeed, as many such families are receiving or did receive assistance and suppport under the An Even Start (AES) program, the ATA is of the view that, by extension, a $700 tax deduction for families would give continued support. While the 'Education Revolution' is espoused it seems that the families most in need of accountable tutoring miss out.
